Les lofts sont des dépôts ou
bâtiments industriels reconvertis en habitations, et dont l'origine
remonte au New York des années 1950.
Ce furent des artistes et
bohèmes qui, en quête d'espace de travail et d'habitation à
prix abordable, virent dans les ateliers et entrepôts industriels datant
de la fin du XIXe siècle la réponse idéale à leurs
exigences individuelles. Ils inventèrent ainsi l'équivalent
américain de l'atelier d'artiste parisien. |

Depuis, d'anciennes usines ont
été rénovées à grands frais sur toute la
planète et transformées en lofts ; les habitats bon marché
d'autrefois sont devenus aujourd'hui des lieux de vie et de travail
convoités et, selon leur taille et leur aménagement, plutôt
onéreux.
À l'aide de 600 illustrations, graphiques et
plans, Book of Lofts / Le livre des lofts / Das Loftbuch
présente 55 lofts répartis dans le monde entier qui prouvent que
chaque édifice ou espace peut être adapté de manière
idéale à chaque besoin. |
Lofts are apartments resulting from
the conversion of former industrial or commercial buildings.
They have
their origins in the New York of the 1950s. At that time, artists and bohemians
in search of cheap places to live and work began to move into abandoned
late-nineteenth-century buildings that had once been warehouses, workshops or
factories, thus creating a new American version of the Parisian artist's
atelier.
Nowadays, the tendency to convert warehouses and factories
into homes has extended everywhere. Once low-cost living spaces for artists,
often occupied illegally by students, they have grown into elegant, luxurious
residences reserved for a wealthy elite.
Book of Lofts / Le livre
des lofts / Das Loftbuch describes 55 lofts from all over the world,
occupying buildings ranging from huge industrial spaces to small business
premises. It is illustrated by more than 600 photographs, architectural plans
and computer graphics. |
