The Insurance Companies Act of Canada, Regulations
and Guidelines is a complete portable reference source for the federal
legislation and regulations governing insurers and for the administrative
guidelines issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions
to supplement the regulatory regime.
Each section of the Insurance
Companies Act is cross-referenced to other relevant sections of the Act, as
well as to any related regulations, guidelines, instruction guides, fee
schedules, forms and rulings.
The Insurance Companies Act of Canada,
Regulations and Guidelines also includes the Office of the Superintendent

The 2011 edition incorporates various changes from
the previous edition, including:
- Amendments to the legislation that implement
certain provisions of the federal budget of March 4, 2010;
- New Regulations governing charges for mortgage
insurance by insurers acting as mortgage lenders;
- Various Accounting Guidelines dealing with
financial disclosure, as amended to take account of the International Financial
Reporting Standards, which come into full force on January 1, 2011;
- Guidelines setting out the capital requirements for
life insurers and describing the adequacy of branch assets test for foreign
property and casualty insurers, as recently amended.
The legislation cited in this edition is current to
Canada Gazette Part II 144:20 (September 29, 2010). The Guidelines and
Bulletins are current to November, 2010.
This is an annual publication.
